Google Trends – Google Keyword Tool
Google Trends may be the most valuable Google Keyword Tool Google gives us free of charge!
Google Trends is the Google Keyword Tool that many website owners ignore, even though they are attempting to target specific audiences around the World. It may be more useful then the new Google Keyword Planner! (It absolutely is for me!)

Hot Searches gives you the hot topics of interest, constantly updated throughout the day!
Top Charts provides you with 47 major categories of the top items searched in the past month. When looking for ideas on subjects to write about, you may not need to look further than right here!
…is the section that allows you to get deep insights into your targeted keyword!
The graph quickly shows that the keyword (KW) “how to lose weight” had very little interest from 2005 – 2008, but began to climb March of 09′, & took a huge jump in October scoring a 76 out of a possible 100 for the month! Since 2011 the KW has remained fairly good, around an 80.
To the left of the graph are filters that allow you to focus your search using the drop down box options seen below:
The last filter option, “Categories”, is extensive! It allows you to fine tune your search, and recommends categories based upon your search term.
Take a look at what this next set of filter selections gives us.

The graph below shows that worldwide interest in this search topic has remained high this year.
The “Related Terms” section shows the top related KW phrase that is searched is “lose weight fast”.
Pay special attention to the bottom right section… “RELATED TERMS”
No matter what KW phrase you begin with, the “Related Terms” searched will be shown with their relative values. Simply clicking any one of them will change the entire page to reflect that search term. Many times, A “Rising Related Term” will provide you with a better KW than the original search query.
The top related term to my original search term is “lose weight fast”, and clicking on that will change the entire page to reflect that search term.
The search term “How to lose weight” (shown in the above graph) clearly out performed the top “rising” search term shown in the graph below. However, using the rest of those related terms a time or two in your article, and including them in your SEO Tags on that article will improve your search results.
This is an excellent way to find the perfect focus keyword for the country or region that you want to target. It will also help you determine where an ad campaign can be most effective based solely upon the interest of that region.
